As most people in the United States heard New Orleans is currently an evacuation zone due to Tropical Storm Barry’s path. Lets take a look at The Malls of New Orleans hours before the storm make landfall.
The Esplanade
The Esplanade is located in the town of Kenner. The Esplanade is has been on life support. It’s owner is Kohan Retail Group, which is infamous for owning dead malls. They currently have 135 stores and four anchors. Their anchors are Dillard’s and Target. The mall was only closed for two months after Hurricane Katrina and didn’t need to be rebuilt. I hope the mall doesn’t get majorly damaged if any.
Oakwood Center
Oakwood Center is located in Gretna and is no stranger to damage. During Hurricane Katrina over 80% of the mall was damaged by fire and water the worst damage for a mall during Hurricane Katrina. The mall was demolished and was rebuilt and opened in 2007. I hope the damage isn’t bad or no damage at all.
Lakeside Shopping Center
Lakeside is the most popular malls and also the largest in New Orleans. Lakeside is in New Orleans suburb Metairie. Many exclusive shops you can’t find anywhere else in New Orleans reside here. Madewell, LEGO, and Apple just to name a few. The mall only received minor damage from Hurricane Katrina. I hope the mall will receive little damage if any.
Canal Place
Canal Place is New Orleans home to many luxury retailers including a new Louis Vuitton store. Other shops include Tory Burch, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Tiffany & Co. During the storm in 2005 their was a fire in the Saks Fifth Avenue. The mall reopened about 6 months after Hurricane Katrina and Saks reopened that November. I hope this mall doesn’t receive a ton of damage.
The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk (Former Riverwalk Marketplace)
The former Riverwalk Marketplace is used to damage. Riverwalk is quite new too. I just feel bad for everyone!
Sending my love to New Orleans.
