The Shops at Liberty Place is in Center City Philadelphia and is part of Liberty Place. The Shops are centered around a giant dome with shops on two levels. There are hallways that stem out to 17th Street, Market Street, Sixteenth Street, and Chestnut Street. The food court is actually bigger than some malls in the suburbs or even in rural areas. The Shops at Liberty Place was in phase two of the Liberty Place project along with Two Liberty Place, a parking garage, and a Ritz Carlton which later became a Westin Hotel. The Shops at Liberty Place opened on November 13, 1990 which was not good because the country was in a recession and the mall was 25 percent vacant which translates to Fifty stores and fourteen restaurants that were open. In 1990 the mall was owned by the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association. In 1999 the mall was sold to Sunbelt Management. The Shops at Liberty Place has an interesting mix of shops.
